Our next move

Post  Arvil Boulderbreaker on Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:06 pm

Well Ladds, we have gained some control over the mines, but have encountered others who wish us gone. I feel that to honor our fallen that we should do all that we can to claim full control of the mines and surounding caverns. We Dwarves have begun mining and are finding some good materials to supply our estibilishment of Haven and eventually Amrun Taury.

The problem as I see it is which group do we attach or side with first? The black caps? Green caps? Spiders? Orc king? Please state your opinions here on what you think we should do. Maybe the former Master Chief in his new role as Captian or Master Smith Stoneforge could shed some light on this subject.

Post  Micha_Amasai on Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:48 pm

Arvil I too agree that we must more forward..... however there are a few things that do concern me. The most important one being that even though these forces are fighting among themselves, they are all fighting us. Which puts us at a disadvantage, no doubt.

I am confident thou, that proper communication among the group and a well organized tactical plan will most benefit us, we have great talent and skills we just need to put them to proper and logical use....

It is time we get a plan in motion.... with Terik leading up a new Guild to help defend the area.... Vaylen and myself are quickly growing in skill and talks of a mages guild ... We would like to hear some input from others.....

And with fighters such as Terik, Zane, Arvil, and the many other skilled fighters we should be able to defend and overtake.

Our Celestial caster are few in number but Jut'sin of the Order is quickly growing in skill and will be able to assist is creating and identifying of magical items......

We have also established a workshop around the Out Post to help assist with those skilled in Alchemy......

We are making great strides as a group as a whole, but we must get a plan!

If I can be of any service to any.... please let me know.....

Fortifying the Bawnishall Mines

Post  Admin on Tue Dec 01, 2009 2:23 pm

To all,

Me have read ye posts and being the elder member of me clan here, needs to speak. Me clan is greatful for all ye help in taking of the mines and once we get the silver flowing again. We like to repay our debt to ye, look as things be, the mine will be in full force come the new year. In January of 610 we wish to offer all those that helped by making yea one new suit of armor, shield, or weapon.

Me would like to add that me clans men won't ally are selves with any goblins, trolls, orcs, etc.. We believe that it be our time to push out these elements with proper planning. Me have talked with Captain von Beckelheimer, he wishes in the new year to retake Amrun Taury from the minions of the gate. Me clan has agreed to help Captain von Beckelheimer with support of arms and what troops we can spare. It will be some time before we get more dwarves of age to help take the rest of the ancient under hall from the foul duergar of Clan Sha'Dhurm.

Me will be very busy of the winterfest, helping to get the mines back in order. If need be you can send me a letter here in Haven (swvnero@gmail.com)

good words Master Smith

Post  Arvil Boulderbreaker on Tue Dec 01, 2009 4:15 pm

Master Smith Stoneforge, your words ring true. Your clan gets great honor for having a great elder and smith as ye. Having used one of your axes in the past battle it humbles me that your clan is willing to give me one of ye great works.

I do feel that I must clarify my words, this writing is harder than it looks. Having just learned to write I some time mispell or miss something with what I mean. My concern was I did not want to fight a war with 3-4 differnt factions, but we need to see if we can have some peace with some while we get rid of the rest. I know that no peace treaty with orcs, goblins, or the like would last for long as none of these can be trusted. I will never ally me self with an Ogre or Troll. We do need to decide who to attach first. I know I am ready to start swinging me axe and chopping some goblins to pieces.

AB,

But what do we have to "offer" for said treaty? I mean it looks as though we all have the same general desire.... TO MINE, and make uses of said resources......

Whereas they all have the common enemy.... us! Therefor it seem as they have more of a reason to work together then we work along with us?

Greeting Kelvaren,

After your departure, we continued to fight a few dwarfs.... and shortly forged on to learn more about the mine. We encountered some goblins, trolls, spiders, and black hats!..... We where able to "communicate" with one of the captured "black hats" and as a token Zane was give his hat, after escorting him out of area..... Tho while talking to him we learned of some Troll, another tribe, and "Her" to the north?

I for one must think you for the imprison spell....as it did save my life.... or at least made it so that I could escape!

I hope your travels where safe

Micah Amasai....

Strategy

Post  Zackari on Wed Dec 02, 2009 3:43 pm

You speak of needing a strategy for taking the rest of the mine. First, however, I think we would have to define what we want to take, before we can decide how to take it. In order to come to that conclusion, I believe it would be necessary to settle several other points.

Firstly, how much can we safely take? That is, what do we have the forces to secure, and how much can we productively use? If we expect to forge any kind of security, we must have reasonable bounds within which to exercise our power of law and execute a just rule, while providing for the safety of all within those bounds. If we lack the forces to adequatley patrol the bounds we stake, then those bounds become pointless.

Secondly, which areas exactly do we wish to take? The most natural way to do this would be to place the town at the center and expand the bounds outward equally in all possible directions. However, if our friends the dwarves wish to take a specific area for its resources or strategic location, that needs to be taken into consideration and accounted for.

Thirdly, who controls the areas we wish to take? If at all possible, it would be wise to fight only one force at a time. If the force at our disposal was anything like the last venture into the mines, fighting a war on mulitple fronts seems foolhardy in the extreme. So I suggest we divide and conquer, taking small areas at once instead of trying to sweep the whole land under our control.

Fourth, who can we put in a position where attacking us would be unwise? Suppose for instance there are two areas we want to control. One is controlled by black caps, one by green caps. In order to avoid a two front war, we must make it seem inopportune for one group to attack us while we're destroying the other. Mayhaps we could lure some giant spiders or ettercaps into the lair of the green caps with the efforts of a few adventurers, while we send the majority of our force goes to rout the black caps. This would serve multiple purposes. Firstly, we would keep the green caps from attacking an exosed flank while we do battle. Secondly, the attack by the spiderlike forces may serve to weaken the green caps. Thirldy, the adventurers luring the spider forces in would find themselves in a very advantageous position. If the green caps seem to be the stronger side, let them join the goblins in beating off the spiders, and attempt to form a truce whilst the goblins repair and rest, thus giving us the opportunity to take more of the caves without fear of the green caps attacking. Or, if the spiders seem on the verge of victory, let the heroes strike from the shadows at the goblins and flee the monsters after assuring the defeat of the green caps. Either way, we free ourselves of the greater threat, at least temporarily, so that we may face them from a position of strength.

Only when all of these questions have been faced and answered will we have a strategy that could lead us to victory.

I believe you have some interesting points....

1) How much can we safely take? - I believe that be what we have taken? was our safe point, now it is pushing the boundaries outwards...

2) Seeing how the mines set under parts of Amrun T. that those would be the most valuable to us.... as trade, escape, ambush routes.... etc.

3) No "ONE" controls the areas, it seem as like ourselves there are other groups trying to establish the same thing...control.

4) I'm really not sure how this would benefit us, other then postponing our attack on the other group? While I am all for peaceful solutions, this doesn't seem like it will be......

things to ponder

Post  Arvil Boulderbreaker on Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:22 pm

Young Zakari has brought up ,any good points to ponder upon. I think we need to spend a good amount of time considering and discussing them, especially over some cold mugs of beer, ale, stouts, and bocks at a nice tavern.

Strategy

Post  Zackari on Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:23 pm

The whole point of that is to postpone an attack. We don't want to be fighting everyone at the same time. As far as peaceful solutions go, the only possiblity I see is the goblins agreeing to pack up and move out, and that seems highly unlikely. Barring that, the best I think we can hope to do is attack one faction, while stopping the others from attacking our rear while we're doing that. To keep them distracted, hurting, and off balance until we're ready to deal with them in turn, like we did with the others.

Thank you for your support friend Boulderbreaker. I'm all in favor of your proposed discussion as well!

AB, I agree there is much discussion that needs to take place! As I have stated before, there are many good points and ideas to consider posted here... Now it time to plan, discuss and determine an action!

While sitting around a tavern with a cold drink would be most nice, I am afraid we do not have such a place to do that?...... YET!

Again I and my brothers will offer any assistance we can.....

Post  Terik on Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:46 pm

(by courier)

Congratulations are in order! Word has reached me of your victories. I drink to Dwarves Stoneforge, Ironhill, and Boulderbreaker. You are credits to your clans and your victories will not soon be forgotten. Well done, everyone. I hear that many new adventures have joined you and have already begun to make their marks. I have even heard rumors of Amashi Strategy?!?

To strategy, Master Stoneforge and his clan can hold the mines and Haven for the time being. No disrespect to my Dwarven companions, but I cannot abide stuck in Haven between wicked creatures of the surface, who knows what on the other side of the gate, and multiple factions of enemies below me. The only way to sustain a lasting and defensible position is to next retake Amrun Taury. Besides, with a tavern Boulderbreaker can get us some decent food and drink!

Once again, well fought to all.

and AB, that sounds great!

Strategy

Post  Nabsten on Fri Dec 04, 2009 12:27 am

While the boards here at Haven are securely within the confines of Haven, and thus much less susceptible to spying than are most public boards, be aware that the enemy may none-the-less have access to any information discussed here. Perhaps it is best that talks of strategy and alliances be kept within the confines of the war room or at least passed via private courier to those whom are trustworthy. Best not to have the enemy waiting for you at the gates in front of you, while your supposed allies have your back.

Re: Our next move

Post  Vaylen on Fri Dec 04, 2009 4:40 pm

Gentlemen,

I have enjoyed perusing the previous messages regarding out next planned methods of dealing with our problems. Though I must admit that I am impressed with collaboration of excellent ideas, I feel that we are missing a vital point of interest. Let us step back and take into account a potential ally. As a majority we are at a disadvantage when fighting in the caverns because we are, after all, surface dwellers. The dwarves may be able to keep some of the monstrous forces at bay, but I feel that in order to be able to strike a true blow at the feuding forces, it may behoove us to find allies in the dark elves. Though we have not run into any that are native to this region, indications of elven influence suggest that it is possible they could be found and as such they would be invaluable in the defense of the caverns.

However, I feel our best action to take is to gather supplies and further our training. Many of our casters, myself included, require more training and education than we can acquire here in Haven. The Barony of Ashton has an upcoming market day. I have read that they have several established guilds some of which may offer us insight and perhaps supplies that we are unable to gather in Haven. I propose we take a small journey to Ashton while the dwarves have a strong foothold on the defenses of the region. Perhaps with the appropriate supplies and knowledge we will be able to bolster our current position.

I feel Kelvaren brings up a good point. We must limit the amount of details in our missives. However, I feel we must continue communications in order to stay alert to whatever may come.

Vaylen Glad to see you have made it home safely....

I agree that we are at such a disadvantage, being surface dwellers, the common enemy among them? What concerns me is if we are going to try and get an ally, to them what are we offering? In the case of the dark dwarfs... they are already in the mines, therefore would we just be offering them "safe passage" that we won't attack, and help route the others? Secondly, not knowing much about the dark dwarfs, are they an ally we could "trust?"

Either way... I will be traveling to Ashton, and will hope to learn more at there guilds... as I too need more resources. My brothers should be joining me, to offer me protection!

I hope to see many of you there....

May the earth protect you!
